Molasses Crinkles

These are my mom’s favorite cookies!

(She gave me the jar behind them too)

  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4  cup molasses
  • 2-1/4 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • granulated sugar


  1. Cream shortening & sugar
  2. Add egg and molasses. Beat Well
  3. Sift together dry ingredients
  4. Add to creamed mixture and beat well
  5. Shape dough into 1-inch balls
  6. Roll each ball in granulated sugar
  7. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet
  8. Sprinkle a few drops of water; just wet your hand and shake it over the cookies
  9. Bake at 375° for 10-15 minutes

I usually double this recipe because they go fast.

These cookies freeze well too!
